JOLIET, IL — Joliet Police Department Detective Sgt. Tizoc Landeros announced on Tuesday that a 13-year-old boy from Joliet was arrested and placed into to the Will County River Valley Justice Center on a charge of reckless discharge of a firearm following Monday's shooting severely injuring another 13-year-old boy.
Landeros pointed out that the detectives continued their investigation into the shooting and were able to gather additional information regarding the incident. K9 officers assisted in locating the gun believed to have been used in the shooting.
"Detectives were also able to identify the male juvenile who possessed the firearm when it was discharged. Further investigation is being conducted into the history of the firearm and its owner," Landeros announced.
The juvenile shooting victim remains in stable but critical condition following surgery.
On Monday, Joliet Patch reported that a Joliet boy, just 13 years old, is now in critical condition after suffering a gunshot inside of a house on the near west side. It happened on Market Street, which isn't that far from South Raynor Avenue.
According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 4:53 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Market Street for a report of a person shot. He said that a 13-year-old boy in the home suffered a gunshot wound to the left shoulder. Officers rendered medical aid until Joliet Fire Department paramedics arrived on the scene.
English said the victim was transported by the Joliet Fire Department to Saint Joseph Medical Center in critical condition before later being airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment.
"Preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred inside the residence. Detectives are actively working to determine the events leading up to the incident," English announced.
