Joliet Boy, 13, Fighting To Survive, Airlifted To Loyola Medical Center, Joliet Police Investigating

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet boy, just 13 years old, is now in critical condition after suffering a gunshot inside of a house on the near west side. It happened on Market Street, which isn't that far from South Raynor Avenue.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 4:53 p.m., the officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Market Street for a report of a person shot. He said that a 13-year-old boy in the home suffered a gunshot wound to the left shoulder. Officers rendered medical aid until Joliet Fire Department paramedics arrived on scene.

English said the victim was transported by the Joliet Fire Department to Saint Joseph Medical Center in critical condition before later being airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment.

"Preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred inside the residence. Detectives are actively working to determine the events leading up to the incident," English announced.

No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation remains active and ongoing, English indicated.
