SHOREWOOD, IL — During a typical year, the Shorewood Police Department responds to numerous emergencies and calls for service at the Econo Lodge along the frontage road overlooking Interstate 55. This past weekend, officers captured Joliet 23-year-old Reginald Tate, who has been kept inside the Will County Jail on two previous instances.
According to Shorewood's arrest files, Tate's latest arrest happened around 11:20 a.m. last Friday at 4280 West Jefferson Street. Tate comes from the 700 block of Joliet's Richmond Street. He's charged with unlawful possession of a gun and possession of a stolen gun.
The police department indicated that its officers were performing surveillance in the parking lot of the Econo Lodge and an officer saw a vehicle parking for a few minutes and then exit the parking lot. The officer entered the vehicle’s registration into the mobile data computer and learned the vehicle’s owner possessed a suspended Illinois driver’s license.
Shorewood noted that its officers initiated a traffic stop and met with the Tate. The officer immediately smelled cannabis and explained the reason for the stop. Tate was asked to step out of the vehicle as the officers searched for contraband.
The arrest report indicated that Shorewood police searched a backpack left in front of the center cupholder. The officers located a small shoebox inside of the bag which contained a box of Federal American Eagle 9mm Lugar rounds. The officers also removed a loose center cup holder and found a black Smith and Wesson M and P Shield 9 M pistol.
Tate was placed under arrest and released with a notice to appear at Will County's Courthouse.
