Crash In Downtown Joliet, He Tripped On Curb Causing Police Officers To Fall On Him: Landeros

JOLIET, IL — A 29-year-old Joliet motorist, John Borchert, was ultimately taken away in handcuffs after he became irate and confrontational with the Joliet Police Department following Wednesday's collision in downtown Joliet, the arrest report showed.

According to police spokesman Tizoc Landeros, Borchert was arrested, booked and released on a notice to appear related to two counts of resisting a peace officer and aggravated
intimidation. Borchert was also issued citations for transportation of open alcohol, failure to report an
accident, improper display of registration and driving with expired license plates.

Landeros noted that at approximately 7:30 p.m., Joliet officers responded to the intersection of Chicago Street and Cass for a traffic crash. The caller advised that a black Chevrolet pickup truck had struck a parked vehicle on Cass.

Officers were also informed that several passengers from the Chevrolet had fled the scene. Officers made contact with Borchert, who was on his cellphone attempting to contact the owner of the Chevrolet.

Landeros said that the officers repeatedly attempted to speak with Borchert; however, he continued to walk away from
them. When officers attempted to detain him, Borchert pulled his arms away and attempted to flee. Borchert tripped on a curb, causing officers to fall on top of him, at which time he was taken into custody, Landeros noted.

Borchert remained uncooperative and refused to provide officers with his biographical information. Borchert’s father,
who is the owner of the Chevrolet, later arrived on scene and provided officers with Borchert’s information.

Landeros said the officers inspected the Chevrolet and discovered an open bottle of an alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle. The Chevrolet was determined to be inoperable and was subsequently towed from the scene.
