Wandering Man In Joliet Looking To Kill Someone Near Union Station Taken Away In Handcuffs: Police

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department arrest reports show that a 33-year-old man from Midlothian was arrested on Sunday night under a bizarre set of circumstances.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 11:45 p.m., the Joliet 911 Communications Center received a 911 call from a man identified as Angel Zuniga, who stated he was at the Gateway Center, at 90 E. Jefferson St., and that he threatened to physically harm someone there.

Officers responded to the area but were unable to find Zuniga or any disturbance.

At approximately 11:58 p.m., Zuniga made a second 911 call in which he again threatened to kill someone in the area, English said. This time, the officers responded and found Zuniga nearby.

"During the encounter, officers determined Zuniga was alone and there were no signs of any disturbance or potential victims in the area. Zuniga denied making the 911 calls and stated he did not need police assistance before leaving the area on foot," English said.

Approximately 10 minutes later, Zuniga made a third 911 call and stated he was near Scott Street and Jefferson Street, where he threatened to shoot someone, according to English.

Officers again found Zuniga alone in the area, and he continued to deny placing the calls. While speaking with officers, Zuniga placed another 911 call in their presence, and dispatchers confirmed the phone number matched the previous threatening calls.

Zuniga was taken into custody without incident and charged with disorderly conduct. He was processed at the Joliet Police Department and released on a notice to appear in court.
