John “Jack” Hancock
John “Jack” Hancock, age 77, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026; going home to meet his loved ones.
Jack was born to John P. and Anita (nee Aubrey) Hancock on October 27, 1948, in Joliet, IL. He attended Joliet public schools and graduated in 1966. He enjoyed playing the alto saxophone and was a member of the American Legion Band Post 1284. He traveled all over the country performing and competing in the band during high school and many years after.
Jack moved back to Elwood to remodel the family home with his father. He worked as a land surveyor for many years, before receiving his real estate license in 1980. He worked as a licensed Illinois Real Estate Broker until his retirement in 2005. In recent years, Jack enjoyed being a school bus driver.
Jack enjoyed jazz, nature and the outdoors, fishing, downhill skiing, reading biographies, American history, anthropology, astronomy, and geography. He was a life-long learner and an animal lover.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John P. and Anita Hancock; his sister, Linda Papp, and his beloved dog, Alice.
Visitation for John P. “Jack” Hancock will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, from 10:00 a.m. until service’s beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Elwood, IL, following the service.
