JOLIET, IL — Days after a man and woman were taken into custody in the dismemberment of a Plainfield-area victim, both appeared for their initial hearings in Will County Court.
James Adams, 26, and Robin Turner, 62, are charged with concealment of a homicide and dismembering a human being. They appeared in court Monday and were assigned public defenders.
Police say they live in the 2400 block of Ruth Fitzgerald Drive, where public records show victim Dalewayne Turner, 38, also lived.
According to state police, an investigation into Dalewayne Turner's death began June 28, when boaters on Lake Mattoon in central Illinois discovered a partial severed arm bearing distinctive tattoos, including a skeleton holding a Green Bay Packers helmet.
A day later, state police issued a plea for information that could identify the victim. By Wednesday, police said the remains had been identified as those of Dalewayne Turner.
Additional searches of Lake Mattoon turned up additional severed body parts, according to state police, and Adams and Robin Turner were taken into custody after a search warrant was executed at the Ruth Fitzgerald Drive home.
More charges against the pair are expected, state police said last week.
On Monday, each appeared in court, where prosecutors were given leave to file a petition to deny pretrial release to keep them in jail.
Adams is due back in court for a detention hearing on July 10, while Robin Turner's detention hearing is July 9.
According to court records, both defendants previously filed for orders of protection against Dalewayne Turner. Robin Turner filed hers in March 2025, while Adams filed for an order in May 2025.
State police declined to say how the pair are connected to the victim. On social media, family members have referred to Robin Turner as Dalewayne Turner's wife and James Adams as his brother.
