Joliet Shooting Victim Moved To Loyola After More Gunfire Along This East Side Street

English noted that the shooting scene was secured, and officers, detectives, and crime scene investigators conducted an extensive canvass.

JOLIET, IL — Practically every year, the Joliet Police Department finds someone shot on the east side stretch of Benton Avenue and some of these gunshot victims become homicide victims. This weekend, Joliet police responded to yet another shooting on Benton Avenue, but by the time the squad cars arrived on the scene to tend to the victim, the dangerous gunman was nowhere to be found.

He's gone into hiding and it will now be up to the Joliet police detectives to learn his identity and the reasons for the shooting.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 6:46 p.m. on Saturday, the officers responded to the area of East Benton Street and Polson Place following a report of a man who had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers located an 18-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his back and left arm.

The victim was transported to Silver Cross Hospital with life-threatening injuries before later being transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment.

English noted that the shooting scene was secured, and officers, detectives, and crime scene investigators conducted an extensive canvass of the area during which spent shell casings were located.
