JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department remains vigilant when it comes to spotting motorists who are impaired from consuming too many drugs or alcoholic beverages. Every week, the department typically makes between a half dozen and a dozen such arrests. One of the most recent aggravated DUI cases resulted in the arrest of 47-year-old Joliet resident Javier Rodriguez-Perez.
According to police spokesman Dwayne English, on July 12, at 12:20 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a Honda Accord near North Larkin Avenue and Taylor Street after observing the vehicle fail to proceed through a green traffic signal and fail to use a turn signal.
The driver was identified as Javier Rodriguez-Perez.
English said that during the traffic stop, the officer saw signs of possible alcohol impairment.
"Rodriguez-Perez admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving and was taken into custody without incident after completing field sobriety tests," English announced.
Overall, Rodriguez-Perez was charged with aggravated DUI, DUI, and DUI - BAC Over 0.08. He was also cited for improper lane usage, failure to signal when required, violating minimum speed requirements, no seat belt, no valid driver's license and operating an uninsured vehicle. His vehicle was towed from the scene.
Rodriguez-Perez was processed at the Joliet Police Department and released on a notice to appear in Will County's Courthouse.
