Joliet Detectives Solve Another Shooting: 22-Year-Old Arrested After Victim Flown To Loyola Med Center

The victim was transported to Silver Cross Hospital with life-threatening injuries before later being transferred.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department has solved a recent shooting on Benton Avenue that left an 18-year-old victim fighting for survival. Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English revealed that during an investigation of the shooting that injured an 18-year-old man on July 11, Joliet Police detectives identified Jaime Torres-Reyes, 22, of Joliet as their suspect in this shooting.

A few days ago, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Torres-Reyes with aggravated battery, armed robbery, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon.

"Later that day, at 4:04 p.m., members of the Joliet Police Tactical Unit took Torres-Reyes into custody during a traffic stop near South Joliet Street and Munroe Street. He was transported to the Joliet Police Department for processing before being transferred to the Will County Adult
Detention Facility," English announced on Tuesday.

To recap the crime, on July 11, at 6:46 p.m., officers responded to the area of East Benton Street and Polson Place following a report of a man who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located an 18-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his back and left arm.

The victim was transported to Silver Cross Hospital with life-threatening injuries before later being transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment.

As for Torres, he comes from the 400 block of South Joliet Street, a rough part of Joliet that has had its share of shootings and violent crime over the years.
