44 Sex Crimes For 72-Year-Old Joliet Man Accused Of Using Feather On Adolescent Girl: Indictment Reads

JOLIET, IL — A 72-year-old Joliet man named Kurt H. Johnson is now in the Will County Jail, and he faces an astounding 44 felony charges involving allegations of criminal sexual abuse assault of a family member under the age of 18, child pornography and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Johnson comes from the city's west side. His house is in the 500 block of Apollo Drive.

Illinois State Police were responsible for Thursday's capture and detention. Johnson made it to the Will County Jail at 5 p.m.

A Will County grand jury indictment has been made public and one of the predatory criminal sexual assault charges states that Johnson engaged in an act of sexual penetration against a girl who was under 13 years old, and he knowingly made contact with his victim with an object, being a feather.

That particular charge indicates the crime happened on Sept. 20, 2022.

Joliet Patch was told that the case will not be prosecuted by the Will County State's Attorney's Office, but rather, by the DuPage County State's Attorney, as the special prosecutor.

On Thursday night, Joliet Patch found a press release shared on the website for Will County State's Attorney Jim Glasgow headlined, "State's Attorney Glasgow To Present Award To Jackson, the Will County Children's Advocacy Center's First Therapy Dog." Glasgow announced at the time that he was presenting a medal to the dog, and his press release went on to explain that Johnson and his wife raised and trained puppies for their Leader Dogs for the Blind organization, and Jackson was their personal pet.

More recently, in 2023, the Will County Children's Advocacy Center paid tribute to a late therapy dog named Malley, a Labrador, mentioning Johnson and his wife, who was the dog's handler.
