JOLIET, IL — In any given week, the Joliet police often make at least a dozen domestic battery arrests. This past weekend included the arrest for 67-year-old Martin Awah who comes from the Plainfield area of the city.
According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 6:50 p.m. on July 25, officers responded to a residence in the 1900 block of Birmingham Place for a report of a domestic disturbance.
English revealed that during an argument inside the residence, Awah allegedly pushed his female victim to the ground, struck the victim with a belt and then continued to batter and choke her.
Awah was located at the residence and taken into custody without incident. The victim was transported to St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department.
Awah was charged with domestic battery. He was processed and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
