Retired Joliet Police Officer Resuming Career In Nearby Community As School Resource Officer

JOLIET, IL — Mike Steurer, a retired member of the Joliet Police Department, is returning to the police ranks as the school resource officer for the Braidwood Police Department. These days, Braidwood's force is led by Chief Eric Allen, who retired from Shorewood as a deputy chief in 2025.

At Tuesday night's Braidwood City Council meeting, Steurer was introduced by Mayor Todd Lyons, who was also the prior Braidwood police chief and Wilmington police chief.

According to the village Facebook announcement, Steurer will become the school resource officer at Reed-Custer High School. He's a former United States Marine, a 25-year member of the Joliet Police Department. He has a bachelor's of science degree from the University of Dayton and after retiring from Joliet in 2024, Steurer spent the past two years employed by Plainfield School District 202 as one of their campus monitors.
