JOLIET, IL — Because biting a police officer — or several officers — is not a detainable offense under the Illinois SAFE-T-Act, Joliet 25-year-old Gleidymar Moreno-Puchi was freed from the Will County Jail over the weekend despite facing nine criminal charges in connection with allegations she tried to bite and kick several Joliet police officers during an incident at downtown Joliet's Chicago Street Bar and Grill.
Her nine criminal charges are as follows:
Criminal trespass: on Friday, August 14, "said defendant remained upon the land of another, Chicago Street Pub, at or near 75 N. Chicago Street, Joliet, Will County, Illinois, after receiving notice from an employee of the business to depart."
Aggravated battery: On Friday, Moreno-Puchi "knowingly without legal justification by any means made physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with Officer Daniel Avila #195, knowing Officer Daniel Avila #195 to be a peace officer performing his official duties, in that said defendant bit Officer Daniel Avila #195 in the hand."
Aggravated battery: "defendant ... knowingly without legal justification by any means made physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with Officer John Harris #206, knowing Officer John Harris #206 to be a peace officer performing his official duties, in that said defendant bit Officer John Harris #206 in the forearm."
Aggravated battery: "Defendant, in committing a battery, knowingly without legal justification by any means made physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with Officer John Harris #206, knowing Officer John Harris #206 to be a peace officer performing his official duties, in that said defendant kicked Officer John Harris #206 about the face."
Aggravated assault: "defendant knowingly attempted to bit Officer Daniel Avila #195 about the body, thereby placing Officer Daniel Avila #195 in reasonable apprehension of receiving a battery, knowing Officer Daniel Avila #195 to be a peace officer performing his official duties."
Aggravated assault: "said defendant, in committing an assault, without lawful authority knowingly attempted to kick Officer Marc Jenkins #192 about the body, thereby placing Officer Marc Jenkins #192 in reasonable apprehension of receiving a battery, knowing Officer Marc Jenkins #192 to be a peace officer performing his official duties."
Aggravated assault: "defendant ... knowingly attempted to bite Sgt. William Moore #95 about the body, thereby placing Sgt. William Moore #95 in reasonable apprehension of receiving a battery, knowing Sgt. William Moore #95 to be a peace officer performing his official duties."
Resisting a peace officer: "said defendant knowingly resisted arrest by kicking and biting at Officer Daniel Avila #195 knowing Officer Daniel Avila #195 to be a peace officer engaged in the execution of his official duties."
Resisting a peace officer: "said defendant knowingly resisted arrest by kicking and biting at Officer John Harris #206 knowing Officer John Harris #206 to be a peace officer engaged in the execution of his official duties."
This marks the second time in less than one year for Moreno-Puchi to be kept in the Will County jail following a Joliet police arrest. She was kept incarcerated last Halloween, Oct. 30 through Nov. 1, on two domestic battery charges.
