JOLIET, IL — A 20-year-old Joliet man is now in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say their officers tried to use a Taser to gain his compliance inside his family's house, but the non-lethal weapon was not effective.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 11:37 p.m. on Sunday, the officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Scribner Street for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, an officer encountered Miguel-Angel Pizarro, who allegedly approached the officer in an aggressive manner and refused commands to place his hands behind his back, English noted.

Joliet police said that Pizarro then allegedly grabbed a wooden chair and the officer deployed a taser, which was ineffective. Pizarro then submitted to arrest, and he was subsequently taken into custody without further incident.

So what happened earlier?

English said that Pizarro had been involved in an argument with family members inside the residence. During the incident, Pizarro allegedly pushed his mother,
causing her to fall onto a couch. When another family member intervened, Pizarro allegedly struck him twice in the head and threatened to stab him, the arrest report showed.

Now, Pizarro has been charged with two counts of domestic battery, one count of aggravated assault,
and one count of obstructing a peace officer. He remains in the Will County Jail as of Monday afternoon.
