Fist Fight Erupts In Joliet Neighborhood, Officers Recover Knife, Make 1 Arrest

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced that an 18-year-old was arrested on Sunday evening in connection with a fight taking place at a house on the west side.

Christian Serrano-Montana was charged with aggravated assault and battery. He was processed at the Joliet Police Department and released on a notice to appear in court.

According to the arrest report, at 6:44 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of North Prairie Street for a fight. The officer encountered an adult male who appeared to be seeking safety from Serrano-Montana.

Joliet police said their officer saw Serrano-Montana approaching while armed with a large kitchen knife. The officer gave Serrano-Montana commands to drop the knife, and he complied before being taken into custody without further incident.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, Serrano-Montana and the other man, who were known to each
other, became involved in a physical altercation following an ongoing dispute. During the altercation, the victim sustained minor injuries and reported being bitten on the hand.

Serrano-Montana allegedly entered a nearby residence, retrieved a kitchen knife, and approached the victim while armed with the knife, the police indicated.

Officers said they recovered a knife near the scene.
