JOLIET, IL — A nearly four-month-long investigation of road rage on the streets of Joliet has resulted in two criminal charges filed by the Will County State's Attorney's Office against Joliet 60-year-old Barry Cheney.

English said that a woman was driving a pickup truck and was stopped at a red light at the intersection when a man allegedly approached the vehicle and opened the driver's side door.

The man reportedly yelled at the woman and accused her of cutting him off in traffic. Joliet police noted that the man then allegedly grabbed the woman by the arm before returning to his vehicle and driving away.

The victim was not injured.

"During the investigation, detectives identified Barry Cheney, 60, Joliet, as the suspect," English announced. "On August 21, 2026, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Cheney on charges of aggravated battery and criminal trespass to a vehicle."

The Will County Sheriff's Office warrants division captured Cheney at 4:55 a.m. on Wednesday and he remains in the Will County Jail for now, slated to have his court hearing on Thursday morning. Cheney comes from the 500 block of Dover Street, and he's been in the Will County jail over the years, most recently in December 2020.
