Chaos In Crest Hill As Man Slams Woman's Head Against Wall Before Attacking Police Officer: Prosecutors

JOLIET, IL — The Will County State's Attorney' Office has filed a petition to deny pretrial release for a 20-year-old Crest Hill man, Zack Plant, who stands accused of trying to strangle a woman and pushing her head into a wall and then into a floor before attacking the responding police officers to the call.

The criminal complaint for Plant charges him with aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery and three counts of domestic battery. One of his charges accuses Plant of putting his knee to the head of officer Brett Williams.

Crest Hill police booked Plant into the jail just before noon on Saturday, and he remains there on Monday. Will County Judge Zachary Pollack made the SAFE-T-Act ruling against the young man from Crest Hill.

According to the petition to deny Plant pretrial release, prosecutors indicated that at 3:57 a.m. on Saturday, Crest Hill officers responded to one of the apartment buildings in the 1900 block of Marlboro Lane, where Plant resided, and learned he was in a dating relationship with the victim.

The woman said Plant was upset about his battery, and he accused her of cheating on him, according to officials. Plant also accused the woman of taking pills to take her own life, which she denied, prosecutors indicated.

"Her representations appeared to be accurate and the officers left. They were dispatched back out 45 minutes later," court files show.

During the second Crest Hill police call, while Officer Kaden Lewis was present, the victim tried to gather her belongings and leave. "In front of Kaden, the defendant grabbed (her) and began choking her and striking her on the face. He refused orders to stop and resisted Kaden's attempts to stop him. Kaden placed him in handcuffs and took him to the squad car where he continued to resist and kneed Officer Brett Williams on the head," prosecutors alleged.

The female victim that Plant slammed her head on the floor and wall multiple times before they arrived the second time, court files refllect.

"She also stated that he self-injured his head while saying that he would tell the officers that she caused the injuries," prosecutors indicated to the judge.

"During the struggle with officers at the squad car, a body cam was knocked off and Plant said, 'I'm going to grab that gun and pop your ass,'" prosecutors said.

Both the victim and the defendant went to the hospital, and the defendant punched a security officer at the hospital, prosecutors said.

As for Plant, he remains on conditional discharge in Will County for another case in which he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery on Nov. 12, 2025.
