Jackson Street Bridge Closure For Joliet May Not Be As Bad As You Might Think It Would Be

JOLIET, IL — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday that repairs to the bridge carrying Jackson Street over the Des Plaines River, in Joliet, will require a full bridge closure over five consecutive nights beginning, weather permitting, Monday, Oct. 12.

Starting the evening of Monday, Oct. 12, the public should expect overnight full closures approaching the bridge from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. The repairs are expected to be completed by 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.

The closures are necessary to repair corrosion on portions of the structural steel discovered during a recent evaluation, IDOT announced. ​
