JOLIET, IL — On Tuesday night, the Joliet City Council will not only be taking a vote on a Class C liquor license for the new Trader Joe's store on Plainfield Road, there will be a separate vote for a First Watch breakfast, lunch and brunch restaurant.

First Watch is opening in a new multi-tenant building at the The Boulevard Place, the mega retail development off I-55 and Plainfield Road anchored by the Costco store.

The First Watch vote will involve a proposal for a Class E liquor license that is available for a restaurant or hotel.

City documents indicate that First Watch has over 40 years experience and only plans to generate about 5 percent of its revenue from the sales of alcohol.

According to the meeting agenda, the business is a new restaurant at the northwest comer of the Interstate 55 and Route 30 interchange. The property is zoned for general business, which permits a restaurant with on-premises consumption and the sale of liquor.

"Joliet Police Department does not foresee any special law enforcement problems associated with the issuance of this liquor license," the city of Joliet records show.

According to its website, "First Watch serves delicious, made-to-order Breakfast, Brunch and Lunch from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily. We are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day."

The First Watch website goes on to explain, "Since the majority of our customers are not sailors, pirates or sea-farin' scallywags, we seem to get this question a lot. A 'first watch' is a nautical term that refers to the very first shift of the day. And if you ask us, it's the best shift of the day. That's because come the crack of dawn, we're slicing and juicing fresh fruit and vegetables and whipping up our French toast batter from scratch, just for you."

Until the new Joliet First Watch opens, there are 10 existing locations in the Chicago area mostly in the affluent suburbs including two locations in Naperville, plus one location in the following communities: Oak Brook, Geneva, Bloomingdale Court, River Forest, Des Plaines, Orland Park, Schaumburg and Kildeer.

The address for the new Joliet location will be 16319 South Place Suite 103.
