Dog Dies In Horrific Joliet House Fire That Swept Clouds Of Black Smoke Across Skyline

Joliet crews battled a house fire in the 2100 block of Litchfield Court near Aux Sable Middle School on Friday.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Batusich issued a press release revealing that one dog died late Friday morning near the Aux Sable School.

The house fire happened at 11:45 a.m. about three blocks away in the 2100 block of Litchfield Court, which is part of the Greywall Subdivision near Arbeiter Road. Fire company 10 arrived within 2 minutes of the call and found the front of the structure fully involved in fire. The fire extended into other rooms and the attic of the house before the Fire Department arrived.

According to Batusich, the crews performed an aggressive interior attack on the structure and extinguished the fire.

No one was home when the fire broke out. Crews remained on the scene for two hours extinguishing hot spots. The structure sustained significant damage. There were no injuries to residents or firefighters, but one dog perished in the fire.

Fire crews from stations 5,6,7,8,9, & 10 responded to the scene.

Joliet Building inspectors were also called to the scene due to structural integrity issues within the home caused by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
