JOLIET, IL — MyShawn Michael Robinson, a 33-year-old Joliet man now marking his fourth time in the Will County Jail since 2023, must remain incarcerated indefinitely under the dangerousness standard set forth by the SAFE-T Act, one of the Will County judges ruled.

Robinson was charged with violating an order of protection.

Will County judge Ray McSteen, serving as the rotating weekend and holiday court judge, made the decision ordering Robinson to remain in detention under the SAFE-T-Act.

The Will County State's Attorney's Office filed the petition to deny pretrial release, pointing out "this is the third criminal offense that the defendant has committed against these same victims. First, the defendant violated a previous order of protection and pleaded guilty to a criminal trespass to residence with persons present in 2022 ... The defendant kicked in their apartment door and when the victim came downstairs, the defendant went toward the victim and said, 'Imma kill your ass.'"

Prosecutors noted that the victim managed to strike Robinson in the head with an aluminum baseball bat.

Then, in a separate incident, Robinson was charged with robbery against the same victim after he became upset about not being able to use his parents' car, so he struck his father in the face numerous times, court files show, then picked up a coffee table and threw it at the man. Robinson's victim later needed stitches and suffered a swollen eye.

"Defendant has a history of harassing, abusing and harming these victims and there are no conditions of pretrial release that can mitigate the danger he is to them or the community," prosecutors outlined.

Robinson Arrested Oct. 10 Inside Cemetery

Last weekend marked Robinson's latest brush with Joliet police.

At 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, Robinson showed up at the house of his parents in the 0 to 50 block of North Hickory Street "banging on the door and refusing to leave," court files allege. His father advised he needed to leave, but prosecutors say Robinson would not and began to sit on a bench at their porch.

When the victims told Robinson they would call the Joliet police, Robinson got up and left, court records state. Joliet police then found Robinson inside the nearby St. Patrick's Cemetery, and "defendant denied being at his parents' house and said he was at Harrah's Casino. Defendant advised the incident between him and his family was 'family business,'" prosecutors explained.

Lastly, prosecutors noted there is a valid order of protection that was served on Robinson in open court back on July 11, 2025.

Robinson will be returned to the courthouse for his next appearance set for Oct. 29 in Courtroom 405. The judge's order also notes there is no known address of residence for Robinson.
