WILMINGTON, IL — On Thursday, which is his 42nd birthday, Wilmington resident Chad Glover will find himself the recipient of an arrest warrant from the Will County Sheriff's Office on eight criminal charges including three hate crimes. The criminal complaint alleges Glover went to great lengths this past summer to warn a man and a woman who are of Middle Eastern descent not to purchase a house in his neighborhood. He also targeted their Middle Eastern real estate agent, the charges allege.
Joliet Patch is not naming the three persons because they are identified as the victims in the criminal complaint. Glover is now facing two counts of intimidation, three counts of hate crimes and three counts of disorderly conduct.
Thursday's bench warrant authorizing Glover's arrest was issued by Will County Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak and she has ordered that Glover be held without release and brought before her court for pretrial detention or a conditions of release hearing. It's a Will County Sheriff's Office investigation.
According to the first intimidation charge, back on July 14, Glover knowingly communicated a threat to expose any person to hatred, contempt or ridicule with the intent to cause one of the victims, a woman, to refrain from purchasing a home in Glover's neighborhood.
The arrest warrant indicates Glover lives in the 28300 block of Wilmington's South Elm Drive. The warrant indicates he is white, 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
The second intimidation charge involves a different victim who is of Middle Eastern descent. The complaint indicates that Glover communicated a threat to that man to refrain from purchasing a home in Glover's neighborhood, also on July 14.
As for the hate crime charges, Glover is accused of informing the woman of Middle Eastern descent "that he knowingly made statements to (her) as she was viewing a home to purchase while making derogatory comments about her race and indicating he would kill her," the complaint alleges.
As for the man of Middle Eastern descent, Glover "knowingly made statements to (him) as he was viewing a home to purchase while making derogatory comments about his race and indicating he would kill him," court files say.
The third hate crime charge against Glover involves a second man who was of Middle Eastern descent "in that he knowingly made statements (to him) as he was showing a home for purchase to his clients while making derogatory comments about his race and indicating he would kill him," court documents state.
The three disorderly conduct charges indicate that Glover alarmed or disturbed the two prospective home buyers and their real estate agent "in that defendant made derogatory statements about" their race and that he would kill them for viewing a home in his neighborhood or that he would kill the Middle Eastern real estate agent who was showing a home to his clients for purchase on July 14.
