JOLIET, IL — The Will County State's Attorney's Office continues to bring more criminal charges against 40-year-old Joliet resident Bobby Prewitt Jr. On Thursday, he was charged with possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. Just two weeks ago, Prewitt was successful in winning his SAFE-T Act detention hearing after an arrest in Joliet by the Will County Sheriff's Office.
According to the prosecution's unsuccessful petition to deny pretrial release on charges of felon in possession of a weapon, possessing an assault weapon and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, sheriff's deputies Heck and Burket were patrolling near Serhing Street and McKinley Avenue when they noticed a suspicious red Ford Escape occupied by two people.
The vehicle was in a grassy lot behind a parked semi-truck. The deputies activated their emergency lights to investigate and spotted Prewitt, the driver, with a pair of brass knuckles in plain view in the center console, court files show.
"Deputies confiscated the brass knuckles and conducted a search on the vehicle and located two glass tubes with burn marks and a white residue, suspected to be crack pipes, in the driver door compartments," court documents state.
As for Prewitt, he told the sheriff's deputies "that a friend gave him the brass knuckles and that he didn't know they were illegal to possess," prosecutors stated, revealing that Prewitt has past convictions for aggravated criminal sexual abuse from 2008 and possession of controlled substances from 2010, both out of Will County.
The jail logs show that Prewitt comes from the 300 block of Notre Dame Avenue over in the Marycrest area.
