JOLIET, IL — A 27-year-old Joliet man has just regained his freedom after spending the past two days in the Will County jail following his Joliet police arrest in connection with an automobile incident at a Joliet tavern. Will County prosecutors are accusing Roiber Hernandez-Lira, who also goes by Robert, of using his car as a dangerous weapon more than two months ago.
On Aug. 8, he operated a light blue Hyundai in a manner that placed the person in reasonable apprehension of being struck and accelerated the car, driving it into a door of a building where a man was standing, the court files allege.
Hernandez-Lira faces three aggravated assault charges.
The second charge indicates that Hernandez-Lira knew the person he was trying to run over to be a private security officer who was assaulted in retaliation for performing his official duties.
The third assault charge alleges the private security guard was at a place of public accommodation, the Mil Amores Sports Bar at 1527 N. Raynor St., when Hernandez-Lira drove his car into the door of the Joliet building where the victim was standing.
The warrant for Hernandez-Lira's arrest from this week indicates he lives in the 200 block of Joliet's Union Street.
