Joyce Brooks-McGilvery Obituary

Joyce Christian Brooks was born March 21, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois, to proud parents Threesa Brooks-Dixon and Herbert Brooks Sr. She was the second child of eleven. Joyce attended Elijah Kelly Elementary, Gompers Junior High and Joliet Central High School in Joliet, Illinois.

On June 20, 1991, Joyce united in marriage to Tom L. McGilvery, her soul mate of 40 years. For many years they enjoyed fishing together, hosting the huge Brooks family gatherings and visiting family in Mississippi.

Joyce accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of St. John Church until her health began to fail.

After a long illness, God called her home on Thursday, February 7, 2013.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories; her father, Herbert Brooks Sr. of Chicago, IL, mother, Threesa Brooks-Dixon, Milwaukee, WI, three children; Eric Andre’ Brooks of Fort Wayne, IN, Patricia Renee’ Brooks, Joliet, IL and Threesa Marie (D. Jamel) Kimbrough, Oswego, IL, ten siblings; Larry (Ingrid) Brooks of Joliet, IL, Debra Brooks, Stockton, CA, Renee Brooks, Stockton, CA, Herbert (Gwen) Brooks, Joliet, IL, Ricky (Sharon) Brooks, Joliet, IL, Earlene Marie Brooks, Stockton, CA, Darlene (Gregory) Robinson, Milwaukee, WI, Patti (Thomas) Brooks-Taylor, Stockton, CA and Jerome Brooks, Stockton, CA, Rev. Lee (Sarah)Brooks, Danville, IL; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a host of other relatives, friends and special friends Stella Ellis and Clementine McGilvery.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Tom L. McGilvery and dear brother Gregory E. Brooks.

Visitation Friday, February 15, 2013 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-7:00 p.m. at St. John M.B. Church, 104 E. Zarley Blvd., Joliet, IL.  Service at 7:00 p.m., Pastor Herbert Brooks, Jr., officiating.  Interment Saturday, February 16, 2013 10:00 a.m. at Elmhurst Cemetery.
