
Merlin C. Anderson, 72, of Joliet, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, Friday, June 1, 2012.
Survived by his significant other Mary Jane McDonough; his son, children, Eric (Lisa) Anderson of Phoenix, AZ; his daughter, Kimberly Ness of New Hope, MN; three grandchildren, Lilyan and Virginia "Gigi" Anderson and Ethan Ness; a step-grandson, Chase Stevens; his sister, Carol Anderson of Seattle, WA.
Preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Helga Anderson; a son, Brent Anderson.

Merlin was born on September 14, 1939 in Minot, ND His father was a teacher and the family lived in several communities in the Dakotas. He graduated from Velva High School, Velva, ND. He attended college at the Montana School of Mines, in Bozeman, Montana.
Merlin joined the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged as a result of injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident. He moved to the Midwest where he met and married Cindy Machado on December 19,1964. Together they raised their three children in Fargo, ND. where he was active in the Fargo Park District youth hockey as a coach and enjoyed cheering for his sons' teams, the Fargo North Side Raiders, North High School Spartans and was also an avid fan of the University of North Dakota "Fighting Sioux" hockey team.

Merlin was employed as an Ironworker for Local #793 for 40years, which included 3 years as a business agent. He worked on the John Hancock Building, NORAD and many other buildings and bridges throughout the United States.
Merlin enjoyed watching hockey, taking road trips, visiting new places, and traveling abroad. Merlin enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was proud of his Norwegian Heritage.
Merlin spent the last 20 years of his life with Mary Jane in Joliet. Merlin lived his life with a strong conviction for self-determination.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, Tuesday, June 5, at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3:00 P.M. until time of services.
