Andy & Sophie's: 1 Gunshot Victim In Critical Condition

JOLIET, IL — Several Joliet Police cars were converged around the Andy & Sophie's neighborhood bar at Hickory and Moran Streets to investigate a shooting of a 31-year-old late Friday night.

Officers said they found the victim with gunshot wounds to his abdomen. He was taken by ambulance to Amita St. Joe's hospital and is in critical condition, authorities said on Saturday morning. The shooting happened at 10:22 p.m., according to police.

The Joliet Fire Department sent engine 5 and ambulance 1 to the crime scene at Andy & Sophie's Bar. The victim suffered multiple gunshots to his chest area, fire officials said.

"The investigation is still in its early stages. At this stage of the investigation, the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public," Joliet Police advised.

One witness told Patch that police had stretched yellow crime scene tape around the perimeter of the property as well as a parking lot.

Evidence technicians were searching the ground with flashlights around 11:30 p.m. There were at least seven Joliet squad cars still on the scene as of 11:30 p.m. and one person indicated there may have been as many as 20 squad cars initially on the scene.

Andy & Sophie's is at 931 N. Hickory St.

Andy and Sophie Wrobel owned the bar since 1974 and they retired last year after 45 years of business. The bar on North Hickory is now under new ownership.
