Ashley McReynolds Stole An Older Man's Wallet At Walmart: Cops

McReynolds was begging Walmart customers for money on West Jefferson Street, police say.

JOLIET, IL - For the third time this year, 23-year-old Ashley McReynolds has had a new mugshot taken at the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Her latest crime, according to Joliet police officials, targeted an unsuspecting older man late Tuesday night who was visiting the Walmart store in the 2400 block of West Jefferson Street. McReynolds, 1600 block of Campbell Street, now finds herself in the downtown county lockup charged with two felony theft counts and a misdemeanor count of obstructing identification.

Joliet's Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory gave the following account of what happened on Tuesday night surrounding McReynolds' most recent Joliet police arrest. McReynolds was hanging out at the Walmart store begging customers for money to help her out. Shortly before midnight, inside Walmart's vestibule area, she approached a 73-year-old man seeking money. The kind-hearted man obliged. He reached for his wallet and proceeded to open up his wallet to give McReynolds a couple of dollars.

That's when McReynolds did a grab and run, police said. She pulled the wallet from the 73-year-old man's hands and then dashed out of the business.

Officers were called. Joliet police located McReynolds over by the MorningStar Mission's Treasure Chest Resale Store near Joyce Road and West Jefferson Street. She was taken into custody without any hassle. The older man's wallet, as well as the stolen cash, were recovered and returned to the victim, Gregory said.

As for McReynolds, her problems in the Will County's legal system continue to mount. Jail logs show she is also being charged with three more misdemeanors, two thefts and a criminal trespass to land, for unrelated crimes that occurred in Joliet on August 27 and September 13.

Her total bond is $75,000, meaning she must come up with 10 percent cash to get herself out of jail this time.
