Attempted Murder, Joliet Police Solve Another Shooting: JPD

Joliet police discovered a 48-year-old man inside a Hyundai van, suffering from a gunshot to his upper chest.​

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police have solved another shooting, taking 56-year-old Robert Walker into custody on attempted first-degree murder charges. Walker committed the crime in late April, according to criminal charges filed last Friday at the Will County Courthouse.

Walker, who comes from the 900 block of Magnolia Avenue, is charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and possession of a controlled substance.

  • Around 8:30 p.m. on April 25, officers responded to the 900 block of Draper Avenue for a shooting.
  • A 48-year-old man inside a Hyundai van had suffered from a gunshot to his upper chest.
  • The victim was taken to an area hospital by the Joliet Fire Department for treatment.
  • Robert Walker became a suspect in the shooting, and a warrant for Walker’s arrest was issued on May 11.
  • On Saturday, at 9:45 p.m., Joliet police saw a Chevrolet SUV in the 1600 block of North Larkin Ave commit several traffic violations. Officers made a traffic stop and identified Walker as a passenger.
  • At the time Walker was placed into custody, Walker had illegal narcotics with him.
  • Walker was taken to the Joliet Police Department for booking procedures and transported and released to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Walker's bail for the shooting was set at $500,000.

"This remains an ongoing investigation," Torkelson announced.
