Aug. 3 Incident Led To Joliet Official's Arrest: Complaint
The woman accusing Angel Contreras, 31, of harming her states "I am afraid that he will retaliate."

JOLIET, IL - Court records filed at the Will County Courthouse offer more insight into this week's arrest of Angel Contreras, a District 204 School Board member who is also an appointed member of the Joliet Housing Authority. The 31-year-old Joliet resident has been charged in Will County Circuit Court with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. The criminal case investigated by the Joliet Police Department states that Contreras "knowingly made physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature ... and that the defendant grabbed (her) about the body."
According to a protection order on file at the Will County Courthouse, the woman who sought the order had previously dated Contreras, who lives in the 1400 block of Ada Street, and is employed at Joliet's Spanish Community Center. Court records indicate the two broke off their relationship in June.
Then on Aug. 3, things became violent, court records reflect. "Angel and I were arguing, he grabbed me and left significant bruising. He pinned me to the bed rails attempting to grab his cell phone from me. He did not get the phone. I had previous stitches and he broke one of the stitches open. I was bleeding."

The victim said she called 911 and that Contreras ran off. "He showed up at my house at 2 a.m. drunk and trying to sweet talk me," the protection order states. "He had parked his car halfway in the street, over the sidewalk and partly in the driveway. I went to move it. I found the secondary phone at this point and realized he was having a relationship with someone else for a year. I have been in a relationship with him for nine years."
The woman who has accused Contreras of hurting her states in court records that "I am afraid he will retaliate. I think I ruined the secondary relationship he was having. I am afraid he will come back to see my dog and attempt to take her."
