Barnes & Noble Disorderly Conduct Arrest Involves Joliet Man With Barnes As Last Name: Police

JOLIET, IL — When was the last time you saw someone arrested at a Joliet business where they shared the same name? It happened on Wednesday night at the Barnes & Noble of all places. Joliet police took Jarrod "Luckey" Barnes away from the popular bookstore on charges of disorderly conduct and criminal trespass.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 6:33 p.m., the officers responded to Barnes and Noble at 2621 Plainfield Road for a report of an unwanted man causing a disturbance inside the business.

Upon arrival, officers learned that Barnes, 45, of Joliet had been inside the store and had allegedly become increasingly disruptive while speaking on his phone, police said.

Employees reported that Barnes used profane and racially offensive language that caused staff and customers to feel
alarmed, English revealed.

Store management asked Barnes to refrain from using inappropriate language and ultimately directed him to leave the business; however, he allegedly refused.

Barnes allegedly became argumentative, used profane language toward officers, and refused repeated directions to leave after being advised that he was no longer permitted on the property, English relayed.

Barnes was then taken into custody for disorderly conduct and criminal trespass. Barnes was processed at the Joliet Police Department and released on a notice to appear in court.

On a side note, this marks the first time Joliet Patch has written about Barnes in several years.

Barnes, who was known on the street by his nickname of Luckey, was getting arrested by the Joliet police constantly around 2021 and some of his arrests, such as the ones at the McDonald's restaurant on West Jefferson Street, the downtown Harrah's Casino and St. Joe's Hospital Emergency Room involved violent behavior, Patch reported at the time.

In May of 2022, Joliet Patch reported that the Will County State's Attorney's Office resolved six of its eight criminal cases against Barnes. The then-41-year-old resident of the 400 block of Kungs Way pleaded guilty to felonies in two cases, while four of his cases were dismissed under the plea agreement. Barnes pleaded guilty to aggravated battery for his Dec. 31, 2021 attack of the private security guard at St. Joe's hospital. His resisting an arrest charge was dismissed under the plea. Barnes was fined $620 and put on two years of court probation.
