Beautiful Boats Invade Joliet's Canal, Here's Why

"From our humble begins as a small group of boaters, AGLCA has grown to 6,000 memberships and 150 sponsors" its website proclaims.

"Whether you've got a powerboat, sailboat, trawler, rowboat or no boat; whether you are doing the Great Loop or dreaming, you'll fit right in, come aboard," AGLCA's website notes.

JOLIET, IL —If you found yourself stuck in traffic on Tuesday afternoon, backed up to Nicholson or even Clement Streets, you may have been cussing out loud inside your vehicle, angry that Joliet's Jefferson Street Bridge remained up in the air even longer than usual.

Here's why it's happening:

"We are thrilled to welcome America's Great Loop Cruisers' Association Loopers as they make a stop in Joliet," city of Joliet officials announced on Facebook last week. "AGLCA has 6,000 members and from now until October 21st, 600 loopers will be stopping in Joliet on their way around the Great Loop. The loopers travel the Great Lakes, and the Mississippi River, and voyage all the way around the Atlantic Ocean. We wish them safe travels on this exciting adventure!"

For the rest of this week, Joliet's automobile motorists may find themselves stuck in traffic, waiting at the Ruby Street Bridge, the Jackson Street Bridge, the Cass Street Bridge, the Jefferson Street Bridge or the McDonough Street Bridge, even longer than normal.

For that, you can appreciate the beauty, all of these mighty speedboats and powerboats passing through our great city of Joliet, the City of Champions.
