Beef Shack's 'Temporary Closure' Now Hits 4 Months
Soon after the Portillo's Pickup opened on Larkin Avenue, Joliet's Beef Shack on West Jefferson Street stopped serving food to customers.

JOLIET, IL — If you believe every sign that you read, the sign on the front door at the Beef Shack on Joliet's West Jefferson Street informs customers that "we'll be back real soon to serve you your favorite beef and fresh cut fries. Our deepest apologies."
Joliet's Beef Shack at 1606 W. Jefferson St. put that sign on its windows in early March, stating "due to equipment failure, we are forced to be closed temporarily until that issue has been fixed."
Day after day, week after week, month after month, nobody is at the empty Beef Shack supposedly fixing this broken equipment. On occasion, someone is showing up to mow the grass. According to Google Reviews, the Joliet Beef Shack is listed as temporarily closed.

But after being temporarily closed for more than three months, it appears less likely that Joliet area residents who enjoyed eating at the Beef Shack will ever have that opportunity again. The Beef Shack first opened in November 2018. With 555 Google Reviews, the Joliet Beef had a rating of 4.1 stars out of 5 stars.
With the Beef Shack out of the picture, perhaps forever, people in the Joliet area still have other options when it comes to food. Hungry customers can now go to the two new fast-food restaurants that specialize in Italian Beef — the new Pop's Italian Beef at the former Boston Market restaurant property at 1866 West Jefferson St. and the new Portillo's Pickup that opened Feb. 1 at the former IHOP property in the North Ridge Plaza, at 1444 N. Larkin Ave.
