Benny Moy Viciously Mugged Older Lady At Harrah's: Police

Moy scoped out the downtown Joliet parking deck near Harrah's and targeted a stranger, Joliet police say,

JOLIET, IL - A 64-year-old Romeoville resident, Benny Moy, faces two felony charges in connection last Thursday night's brutal attack against a defenseless older woman. The victim was walking back to her car near the Harrah's Casino in downtown Joliet. Joliet Deputy Police Chief Al Roechner said it's his belief that Moy targeted a stranger, a woman in her seventies, who does not know the Romeoville resident. Moy is currently charged with robbery and aggravated battery against a senior citizen, jail logs show.

The mugging occurred just before 11 p.m. on November 9, Roechner said. The Harrah's customer was walking back through one of the Harrah's parking decks. Then, Moy emerged out of the shadows, police surmised. He began to beat the woman senselessly. He hit her in the head and shoved her to the concrete floor. He wanted her purse, and he got it. Moy left the injured woman on the ground and ran off, police said.

Roechner said that Harrah's security were on top of the case immediately. Joliet police officers got to the scene quickly. The woman, who is 74 next month, was rushed to Presence Saint Joseph's Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The investigation came together quickly.

Video surveillance footage led police to Moy's car, which was parked in one of the nearby downtown Joliet parking decks off Cass Street, Roechner said. Late into the night, police hunted Moy down at his residence in Romeoville and he was taken into custody. He lives in the 500 block of South Wynbrooke Road.

Will County jail records indicate that Moy was booked into the downtown jail in Joliet at 4:18 a.m. Friday.

"We are glad we were able to get this guy," Roechner said. "He was just looking for an easy victim ... There was no relation at all. Who knows what's in his mind?"

Roechner believes the woman was kept at the west-side Joliet hospital overnight for precautionary reasons, given that she suffered head injuries during the attack. He said also she suffered several cuts and lacerations during the struggle over her purse.

As for Moy, a judge set a $125,000 bond. By Sunday morning, about 48 hours after his arrest, Moy had posted the required 10 percent bail, to get out of the county's jail, logs show.
