JOLIET, IL — For years, people have converged near Joliet's downtown to watch the Bicentennial Park's annual fireworks show, a popular event, on July 3. But that won't happen next month.

On Tuesday, Bicentennial Park officials announced on social media that "for the safety of our guests, the July 3 Independence Celebration at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park will be canceled this year."

Officials acknowledged the announcement is disappointing, but "the health and safety of our staff and guests is our top priority."
