Bicyclist Killed in Crash in Lockport

Victim identified as Joliet man.

A bicyclist died of his injuries Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle in Lockport.

The Will County Coroner’s office identified the man as 51-year-old Jeffrey T. Flowers of Joliet.

Police responded to the crash at 5:01 a.m. in the 14000 block of New Avenue, where they found Flowers critically injured, according to the Herald-News. Flowers, who was identified via fingerprints, was taken to Silver Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:32 a.m.

The 19-year-old driver involved in the accident and a witness both told police that the bicyclist was wearing all black and riding a black bicycle, the paper reported. The bicycle reportedly had a reflector but was not equipped with a light. The driver told police he did not see the bicyclist until just before the crash, and tried to swerve to avoid him.
