BODY CAM: Mexican Independence Day Arrest At Inwood Parking Lot

Joliet police encountered a hostile crowd of young adults celebrating Mexican Independence Day in the Joliet Park District parking lot.

JOLIET, IL — An eight-minute-long Joliet police body camera video shows that several officers encountered a large, angry and hostile crowd of young adults who were celebrating the Mexican Independence Day at a property off-limits for such a gathering, the Joliet Park District's Inwood parking lot.

The incident led to the arrest of 28-year-old Dominic Montenegro, who has been charged with two counts of resisting the arrest. Montenegro, who comes from the 600 block of Florence Avenue, was released from the Will County Jail later the following day.

Joliet Patch previously reported that at 7:22 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 16, Joliet police responded to the parking lot for the Joliet Park District at 3000 W. Jefferson St. for a large, unauthorized gathering of vehicles driving recklessly in the lot and squealing their tires to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.

One of the vehicles squealing its tires in the lot was a GMC truck, Joliet police noted at the time.

In recent days, Joliet Patch obtained body camera video from the Joliet police showing the sequence of events leading to the arrest of Montenegro.
