Braidwood Man, 60, Dies After I-55 Crash

The fatal collision along I-55 near Bluff Road occurred back on Aug. 9, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

JOLIET, IL - A 60-year-old Braidwood man has died from his injuries, almost two weeks after being involved in a crash around Channahon. Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil reported that Michael D. DeBoard died on Monday afternoon at Joliet's Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center intensive care unit. DeBoard had been hospitalized since Wednesday, Aug. 9.

According to O'Neil, the Braidwood man was driving along Interstate 55 when he was struck by another vehicle near the Bluff Road exit. The collision caused DeBoard's vehicle to roll over. Besides the Illinois State Police, Channahon police and Elwood Fire Department's responded to the scene, which occurred around 2:30 a.m. along northbound I-55. The State Police District 5 in Lockport is overseeing the investigation.

Baskerville Funeral Home in Wilmington is handling funeral arrangements for DeBoard, who grew up around Wilmington, graduating in the Class of 1975. According to his obituary, DeBoard worked for 15 years at Johnson & Johnson Personal Products in Wilmington and most recently at Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. He also belonged to the Braidwood Recreation Club, where he enjoy to fish.

"He was a true family man who cherished spending time with his kids and grandchildren," his obituary stated.

Funeral visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington. The funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be afterward at Wilmington's Oakwood Cemetery.
