Captured: Joliet Attempted Murder Defendant In Custody
On July 9. 2021, Alvaro Hernandez of Joliet aimed his gun at a young man on Garnsey Avenue, shooting him on the sidewalk, police said.

JOLIET, IL — A year after a man in Joliet was seriously injured during an 8 p.m. shooting on Garnsey Avenue, authorities have captured attempted murder defendant Alvaro Hernandez.
The Joliet resident who turns 26 next week was taken into custody by Wilmington police on July 3. On Aug. 10, 2021, Will County Judge Sarah Jones issued a warrant for Hernandez's arrest, and she set bail at $1 million for Hernandez, who last resided in the 1000 block of South Briggs Street.
Since then, 11 months have passed since Will County prosecutors filed their criminal complaint against the 25-year-old. He's charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a gun and aggravated discharge of a gun. The shooting happened July 9, 2021.
