Ex-Girlfriend's Car Shot Up Near Louis Mall, Man Arrested: Joliet Police

JOLIET, IL — In the latest shooting near the Louis Joliet Mall, police said a 21-year-old man is accused of firing into his ex-girlfriend's vehicle.

The suspect, Miguel Navarro, was taken into custody over the weekend.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday.

According to English, the ex-girlfriend and a man told police that they were confronted by Navarro after they left the mall. "Navarro, who officers learned was the former boyfriend of the female passenger, allegedly yelled threatening remarks before driving away" in a Mercedes-Benz, English said.

Police said Navarro began following the victims' vehicle before firing multiple rounds at the Mustang near the intersection of Essington Road and Hennepin Drive before fleeing, driving south on Essington Road.

According to English, the man then called police to report that his vehicle had been hit by gunfire. When officers responded to the area of Plainfield Road and Voyager Lane, they found the victim's Ford Mustang and observed damage from apparent gunfire to the passenger side of the vehicle.

The driver and his adult female passenger were not injured, police said.

As the investigation continued, English said officers developed information identifying a possible address for Navarro in the 1200 block of Oneida Street. Officers responded to the residence, where they found the Mercedes-Benz parked outside and took Navarro into custody without incident.

Following a consent search of the residence, officers recovered the upper receiver of a handgun and several handgun magazines, Joliet police said.

Navarro was transported to the Joliet Police Department, where he was processed on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and reckless conduct. He was later transferred to the
Will County Adult Detention Facility.
