JOLIET, IL — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that the Cass Street Bridge, which has served as a two-way thoroughfare since May, will be returning to a one-way-only bridge for east-side residents heading to the west-side of Joliet.

The change in vehicle traffic will take effect Saturday, Feb. 26, weather permitting.

To implement these changes, Cass Street, between Hickory and Joliet streets, will temporarily close, starting at 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 26, IDOT said.

Upon reopening, motorists should expect one-way westbound traffic on Cass Street. The current posted weight restrictions on the bridge will remain in place, IDOT announced.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
