JOLIET, IL — On Wednesday, Joliet's most popular downtown restaurant made an announcement on social media that caught people by surprise. Effective immediately, Chicken-N-Spice will reduce its restaurant hours.

The Joliet Chicken-N-Spice at 251 North Chicago St. was staying open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, according to its website.

In January 2018, Joliet Patch reported that the downtown Joliet Chicken-N-Spice was established in 1979, and was open at that time seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. until 10 p.m.

"I don't like the sound of this," Tony commented on the Facebook page.

"Why? Some of us do work and don’t get home until 6PM. Love to come in for your breakfast sandwiches on the weekend. Guess I won’t be able to do that either. This stinks!!!" Deborah wrote.

"Probably staffing issues like everywhere else," speculated Nikki.

"Closing right in the middle of dinner?" Michael inquired.

"Why?" responded Latasha.

Even though the Joliet Chicken-N-Spice is cutting its hours, the Shorewood Chicken-N-Spice restaurant in the Anderson's Crossing at Route 59 and U.S. Route 52 remains open into the night.

According to its website, the Shorewood restaurant stays open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Shorewood restaurant opened in 2018. It has a drive-thru window, unlike the downtown Joliet restaurant. There is also a third Chicken-N-Spice nowadays on West 159th Street in Orland Hills.
