The mother was jailed on charges of domestic battery and endangering a child.

A 12-year-old girl with Down syndrome walked the freezing streets of the near west side Tuesday evening after her mother slapped her face, police said.

The mother, 49-year-old Jeanette Kerr, was jailed on charges of domestic battery and endangering a child.

The mother’s 43-year-old roommate went looking for the girl after she left their Waverly Place home about 6 p.m., police said. The roommate reportedly told officers the child was missing for more than an hour. The temperature at the time was 14 degrees, police said.
