Child Sex Offender Gives Joliet Police Fake Address, Faces New Felony Charge

Joel T. Carpenter has been charged in Will County Circuit Court with failing to register as a sex offender, a class 3 felony.

JOLIET, IL - A 30-year-old convicted sex offender from Joliet finds himself back in trouble with the law. A Will County grand jury returned an indictment against Joel T. Carpenter for failing to register as a sex offender, a Class 3 felony. According to court records, Carpenter "knowingly gave false information to the law enforcement agency with whom he last registered, specifically the Joliet Police."

Court documents state that Carpenter falsely claimed that he was residing at the Starr Inn, which is in the 2200 block of West Jefferson Street. However, Carpenter's most recent booking mugshot taken at the Will County Sheriff's Department lists his address as the 200 block of East Cass Street.

Carpenter is listed as a child sex offender on the Illinois Sex Offender registry. The website states that Carpenter was 20 at the time of his sex crime and his victim was 13.
