Event At Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park To Celebrate Canadian National EcoConnexions Pollinator Gardens

The City of Joliet will celebrate a pollinator planting project, made possible through a $25,000 grant from the Canadian National EcoConnexions “From the Ground Up” program on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at noon at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park, 201 West Jefferson St. Joliet, IL. The media event will be held at the outdoor shelter, weather permitting.

The grant, entitled, “Renew and Rediscover Our Parks,” is focused on the planting of native pollinator species to educate the public about flowers beneficial to bees, butterflies, and our ecosystem. A “food forest” has also been planted at the northernmost end of the Broadway Street Greenway using a combination of food bearing plants, trees, and pollinator plants.

Canadian National has an Intermodal Facility in Joliet and provides financial support for projects to improve the quality of life in communities where they have a presence. Their “From the Ground Up” grants are administered by the non-profit organization America in Bloom (AIB). AIB is a program partner and lends technical assistance.

Representatives of America in Bloom, Canadian National, and the City of Joliet will be in attendance.
