Columbus Day 2016: What's Open, What's Closed

Columbus Day became a federal holiday in 1937.

Columbus Day is when we celebrate Columbus’ 1492 landing in the new world. According to History.com, it didn’t become a federal holiday until 1937.

Unlike other federal holidays, like Memorial Day, what’s open and what’s closed isn’t so clear cut.

For example, schools are closed, but libraries are open. Government offices are closed, but not all banks.
