Cops: Childs Flees Police, Gets Caught Anyway

It's the second time in a month that Terion Childs was arrested for fleeing the police, jail logs show.

JOLIET, IL - A 20-year-old resident of Joliet's 2nd Avenue remains in the Will County lockup after Joliet Police say Terion Childs ignored numerous commands from city police officers to pull over as directed. Childs, who lives in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue, now faces charges of aggravated fleeing a police officer, disobeying multiple stop signs, disobeying a traffic light and improper lane usage. On Monday, a judge for Will County set his bail at $30,000.

According to Joliet Police, patrol officers saw a silver Pontiac Sunfire traveling westbound on Wallace near the intersection of Desplaines. "The vehicle failed to come to a complete stop at the stop sign and made a left turn," police said.

But when the officers turned on their sirens and flashing blue and red lights, the Pontiac pulled into a parking lot, hit the gas and got onto McDonough Street, authorities say.

"The driver committed several more traffic violations and the officers terminated the pursuit as the driver, later identified as Terion Childs, was driving too recklessly," police reports show.

Later in the night, the Illinois State Police spotted Childs and took him into custody for the Joliet Police. He was booked into the county detention facility around 9 p.m.

As of Monday night, Childs had been unable to come up with 10 percent of his $30,000 bail.

Jail logs indicate the Will County Sheriff's Department also arrested Childs in late July.

He was booked into the county jail on July 28 after being charged with aggravated fleeing the police, disregarding two stop signs, driving the wrong way down a one-way street and improper lane use. Childs spent three days in jail before posting his bail on July 31, which was set at $5,000.
