CREST HILL, IL — A 56-year-old Crest Hill man who Will County prosecutors say tried to shoot one of his neighbors in the 1700 block of Clement Street on Sunday is no longer in the Will County Jail after one of his friends posted 10 percent of the $30,000 bail, court records show.

On Sunday, Crest Hill police arrested John "Bruce" Gasper, who lives in the 1700 block of Clement, which is where the shooting happened. This week, Gasper was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and reckless conduct.

His next court hearing is set for Aug. 1 in Courtroom 405 of Will County Judge Dave Carlson.

The criminal complaint states that Gasper discharged a gun in a reckless manner, endangering the safety of a man who is one of his neighbors, "in that he fired a round from his Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun into the wall of his garage."

The reckless conduct charge states that Gasper's discharge of the gun endangered the safety of his Clement Street neighbor.

Joliet Patch reached out to Crest Hill Police Chief Ed Clark on Wednesday for more details of the shooting, but he did not call back.

As for Gasper, he is becoming a familiar face to the Crest Hill Police Department.

Last December, Crest Hill police lodged two counts of domestic battery against him in connection with allegations Gasper attacked one of his female family members, who lives at his house.

Gasper grabbed the woman about the body and he struck the woman about the head, the complaint states. Gasper's domestic violence charges are scheduled for a jury trial at the Will County Courthouse in September.

Now, on top of that, he faces the two new charges stemming from the gunfire incident that happened Sunday.

One of Gasper's friends, a man who lives in Tinley Park, posted Gasper's bail on Monday evening, Will County Jail logs show.
