Crying Baby Left Alone In Harrah's Hotel Room: JPD

Around noon on Valentine's Day, Joliet police learned of a 3-month-old little boy who was left unattended in a guest room at Harrah's.

JOLIET, IL — A 31-year-old man who comes from Bellwood was released by Joliet police on an I-bond after officers say Robert Pelts left his 3-month-old little boy alone inside one of the Harrah's Casino hotel guest rooms.

Before being released from the police station, Pelts was hauled out of the Harrah's Casino properry in handcuffs on child endangerment charges.

The Valentine's Day incident happened around noon.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events happened:

  • Officers determined that security guards entered the guest room and found the child to be unattended after housekeeping staff overheard the sounds of a crying child coming from the room.
  • Pelts was the child’s father, and he had left his child unattended in his hotel guest room on two occasions for approximately 30 minutes each to get food. Pelts was placed into custody without incident.
  • The mother of the child arrived and took custody of the child.
